Nutrifam: Makes Magic Rice a Campaign that invites you back to eat at the table.

Updated: Aug 26
How GIBU Agency turned a health-conscious rice alternative into an invitation to enjoy the staple Filipinos already love.

Rice is more than a side dish in Filipino households. It is part of the everyday meal, a familiar comfort, and often the food people find hardest to give up when trying to eat healthier.
For Nutrifam’s Magic Rice, the challenge was therefore bigger than building awareness. The real question was consideration: How can a better-for-you rice option feel like a natural switch, rather than a forced upgrade? GIBU approached the challenge by starting with a simple cultural truth:
"Filipinos do not need much convincing to eat rice. They need a reason to believe they can continue enjoying it while making a choice that fits their health goals."

Moving Beyond Diet Culture
The strategy was built around an evolving relationship between Gen Z and nutrition.
As this generation takes on more responsibilities personally and professionally, their approach to food is becoming less about extreme restrictions and more about health, balance, and practicality. GWI’s 2025 research similarly identifies a shift among Gen Z toward nutrition and sustainable health benefits, while fad-diet culture loses relevance.
That shift created an opportunity for Nutrifam's Magic Rice. Instead of positioning the product as another “diet food” that requires people to sacrifice what they enjoy, the campaign reframed the choice around something much more relatable:
Why should eating healthier mean giving up the food you love?
For professionals trying to manage work, social lives, and personal wellness, skipping rice can make meals feel restrictive. It can even create small social tensions, from avoiding lunch with friends to worrying about being tempted by the food everyone else is enjoying.
The opportunity was to make the healthier choice feel less like deprivation and more like permission.
From “Sorry, I'm on a diet ako” to “Kaninan Na!”
The campaign found its cultural anchor in a phrase Filipinos already know:
“Kainan na!” A familiar Tagalog expression that signals that it is time to eat, “Kainan na!” carries a sense of invitation, togetherness, and anticipation. It is not a phrase associated with restriction. It is the opposite. It says: Let’s eat. That made it a natural platform for Nutrifam Magic Rice. Rather than telling people what they could no longer have, the campaign invited them back to the table.
The creative brought this idea to life through a relatable workplace interaction between generations. A Gen Z “health-hacker” introduces Magic Rice to her Millennial co-worker, who has been sacrificing her love for regular white rice in pursuit of her health goals. The exchange turns the usual narrative around. The younger colleague does not preach a diet. She shares a practical solution. And instead of the Millennial having to choose between enjoying rice and staying committed to her goals, Nutrifam Magic Rice presents a third option: she can still have her rice and enjoy it, too.

Making the Switch Feel Familiar
The campaign’s 30-second material was designed around this simple behavioral shift. Magic Rice is made from konjac root, is low-calorie, and cooks in just eight minutes. Most importantly for the creative idea, it is positioned as something that can still satisfy the familiar desire for rice. The product benefit therefore becomes more than a list of functional claims. It becomes the reason the emotional tension can be resolved. The campaign does not ask consumers to completely change how they eat. It simply asks them to consider a different kind of rice. That distinction matters. For a category where healthier alternatives can sometimes feel overly functional or disconnected from enjoyment, Magic Rice needed to move from the rational space of “better for you” into the more emotional space of “I still get to eat what I love.”
A Better Choice That Still Feels Like Eating

With “Kaninan na!”, GIBU turned the traditional language of dieting on its head. Instead of making health the reason to stop, health becomes the reason to find a better way to continue. The result is a campaign grounded in a distinctly Filipino insight: rice is not something people simply consume. It is something they look forward to eating.
And when a better-for-you alternative can preserve that feeling, the switch no longer has to feel like a sacrifice. It can simply feel like another invitation to the table.
Kaninan na!
